Company History ~

Firestone Farms was established in 1987 by Morgan Firestone. His interest in Thoroughbred racing stemmed from his family’s involvement. His mother and step-father, Dorothy and John Galbreath owned Darby Dan Farm, a successful thoroughbred breeding and racing operation based in Kentucky. Firestone Farms stakes winners include Shiny Key, Jalaajel and Alexis. In recent years, Mr. Firestone decided to focus on breeding as well as racing by purchasing and developing the well-bred stallion, Tomahawk, to stand at stud in Ontario.

He has purchased well bred fillies with the object of racing them and then retiring them to his ever-improving broodmare band. In 2005, Mr. Firestone appointed accomplished horseman and Olympic equestrian, Hugh Graham, as racing manager and CEO of the company. Fueled by the victory of homebred Mike Fox in the 2007 Queen’s Plate and the success of Tomahawk as Canada’s 2008 Leading Freshman Sire, Firestone Farms is looking ahead to continue racing and breeding – building on Mr. Firestone’s desire to leave his mark on the Canadian thoroughbred industry. - Morgan Firestone died at home on January 13, 2009, peacefully, with strength and dignity.
